AGARTALA, Sep 30 (TIWN): The 18th meeting of the State Road Safety Council was held in Agartala on Wednesday with a focus on strengthening road safety measures and reducing road accidents across Tripura.

The meeting was organised by the Transport Department at the state Secretariat and was chaired by Tripura Transport Minister Sushanta Chowdhury. Discussions focused on accident prevention, road-user safety and measures to create a safer road environment in the state.

A Rah-Veer award ceremony was also held during the programme, where eight individuals were honoured for their role in helping save lives during road accidents.

The meeting also brought together senior officials from various departments. Health Department Secretary Kiran Gitte, Education Department Secretary Milind Ramteke, Finance Department Secretary Prashant Goel, Traffic SP and other officials were present.

Minister Sushanta Chowdhury also held a virtual meeting with the District Magistrates of different districts to discuss road safety-related issues and measures at the district level.

The state government has been undertaking several initiatives to improve road safety. At the 16th State Road Safety Council meeting in June 2025, the Transport Department had highlighted measures including accident-awareness campaigns, interceptor vehicles with life-support facilities and the Good Samaritan Scheme. The department had also reported a decline in road accidents in the state.
