GOKULNAGAR, Sept 17: A major road accident on the Agartala–Bishalgarh National Highway near the Gokulnagar Rashtar Matha Bridge on Thursday morning left several people injured and disrupted traffic movement for hours.

According to preliminary information, the accident occurred at around 10:30 AM when an Alto Maruti car, bearing registration number TR 01 AC 0502, travelling from Bishalgarh reportedly collided with a goods vehicle bearing registration number TR 03 G 1642.

The impact of the collision caused another Maruti Eeco travelling behind the Alto to crash into the vehicles, resulting in a three-vehicle accident. Several people sustained injuries in the mishap, with some reportedly suffering serious injuries.

The loud sound of the collision alerted nearby residents and eyewitnesses, who rushed to the spot and helped rescue the injured. The Bishalgarh Fire and Emergency Services personnel were informed and arrived shortly afterwards. The injured were subsequently rescued and taken to Bishalgarh Sub-Divisional Hospital for medical treatment.

Following the accident, the damaged vehicles and the rescue operation caused significant disruption on the busy national highway. Traffic movement came to a standstill for an extended period, resulting in a long traffic queue in the area.

The exact circumstances leading to the collision, including whether speed or any other factor contributed to the accident, are yet to be established. Further details regarding the condition of those injured are awaited.
