AGARTALA / NEW DELHI, June 5 (TIWN): Finally Padma Shri award winner Tripura’s flute musician on yesterday has received the award in hand. At the same time, Govt of Tripura has handedover Rs. 1.5 lakh rupees cheque to Thanga Darlong.
Thanga Darlong is an Indian folk music artist, known for his contribution to the folk music of Tripura and his work in preserving & promoting the traditional instrument Rosem. He was awarded the Padma Shri, the fourth highest civilian award in India.
Earlier, due to health issue Darlong could not visit Delhi to join the main programme. Many reports claimed that due to poverty gripped family problems, Darlong could not visit Delhi on that time.
The award was handedover to Padma Shri Thanga Darlong by Rabindra Reang Thanga, DM of Unakoti District.
Thanga Darlong now residing with Soami Darlong, his daughter.
Padma Shri is the fourth highest civilian award in the Republic of India, after the Bharat Ratna, the Padma Vibhushan and the Padma Bhushan. It is awarded by the Government of India, every year on India's Republic Day.
