Agartala, September 29 (TIWN): Assam Rifles General Officer Commanding 3 Corps Lieutenant General Bipin Rawat today called on Chief Minister Manik Sarkar at his office in the civil secretariat.
The meeting was a part of the courtesy visit to the Chief Minister but the AR official was known to have briefed the CM on prevailing security situation of Tripura alongwith rest of the NE region.
Lt. Gen Rawat was today accompanied by Major General Gopal R and Brigadier AS Berar. Rawat presented a memento to Sarkar during his visit today.
He was accorded a warm welcome by officials earlier on the day during his visit to the state Assam Rifles headquarters.
Rawat was later updated on the changing socio-economic dynamics of Tripura and the role of Assam Rifles in providing a safe and stable environment for development and growth. He met senior Assam Rifles officials serving in the state and reviewed the situation.
Officials inside the Assam Rifles state headquarters later said that the GOC emphasized the need for continuous endeavour to improve the prevailing peace situation in the region. He suggested close coordination among security agencies working in the region.
Assam Rifles is working for counter-insurgency operations in Assam, Manipur, Nagaland and Tripura.
