AGARTALA, August 27 (TIWN): Mizoram and Tripura would soon launch a joint survey to solve the borderline dispute between the two states. The survey would start immediately after the ongoing monsoon ends, Revenue Secretary Swapan Saha said here today.
Interacting with the media at his office in the civil secretariat at Agartala today, Revenue Secretary Swapan Saha said that a draft recommendation from the meeting organized by the Survey of India earlier this year in July recently reached the state governments of both state governments.
The Government of Mizoram claimed at the meeting held at Survey of India regional office in Silchar on July 22 that the borderline with Tripura and other states was fixed based on 1933 Assam gazette notification on the Lushai autonomous district council (ADC). Tripura, however, claimed that demarcation of its boundary with adjoining Mizoram was done based on the Survey of India toposheet.
Asked about latest progress in the line, Secretary for Revenue Swapan Saha said that the issue would need a proper joint survey to ascertain the facts and figures in proper proportion. He said that a joint survey would be held after the end of the ongoing monsoon.
