PALATANA/UDAIPUR, August 25 (TIWN): Under round the clock monitoring from Atalanta ,USA based General Electric(GE) Headquarters engineers and technical experts of GE and Sogex Oman an Oman based company in charge of maintenance and repairing of OTPC plant have successfully opened the Gas Turbine on Thursday. And now all are busy in Major Inspection of Gas Turbine. According to OTPC sources it is learnt that now the real inspection will begin. And if everything goes well OTPC is likely to resume generation from the Unit-I of Combined Cycle Gas Turbine(CCGT) Thermal Power Plant from September 3 mid night or September 4 morning, authenticated by our TIWN sources. An OTPC top level official said that the experts of GE and Sojex Oman India Pvt Ltd are now busy in experimenting the Combustion Chamber and Combustion Liner of the Gas Turbine.

The Gas Turbine was opened on 22nd August and by 28th August GE and Sojex Oman are expected to complete their work. And after that a five to six days time is required to reinstall the Gas Turbine. If everything goes well, production will resume from 4th September, adds TIWN sources.

It is to be mentioned that earlier the hardware equipments installed in Combustion Chamber of the Gas Turbine could work up to 8000 hours. But now GE decided to replace all the old hardware equipments with new equipments that can run up to 24000 hours. As such next time the Major Inspection of the Gas Turbine will take place after 24000 hours ( likely to be held in the year 2016).

It is to be mentioned here that the initial process of Major Inspection began on 20th August when load from Gas Turbine was started to be reduced and the production came to zero at 11.30am on 21st August. An OTPC engineer told TIWN over phone," Actually Combustion Chamber is a crucial unit where all the required mechanical energy is generated. This energy is released to keep the Gas Turbine in working condition. Once the energy is released , heat coming out of the Combustion Chamber helps the sparking vulbs in to use the energy into power generation." USA based General Electric is one of those leafing giants that control the monitoring of 80% Gas Turbines of thermal power plants across the globe.
