AGARTALA, Dec 6 (TIWN): Tripura Congress has totally rejected BJP proposed President's rule. Congress leader Piyush Kanti Biswas said, "President's rule is only needed when law and order are totally collapsed, but for Tripura, President's rule is extreme. However, for free and fair election central govt's intervention can be welcomed". "BJP earlier came in power in two states with President's rule. So, for President’s rule in Tripura, Congress has a big 'No'. For the sake of free and fair election, central team may be deployed and it's the duty of the of the election commission to ensure fair means of voting", said Biswas. "If CPI-M does ragging and voters are not allowed to come in booths, will President rule help ?", said Biswas. But, Congress might have forgotten that in 1993 CPI-M also came in power with Presidential rule. So, does Piyush Biswas accepts that Congress Govt was lawless under the then Chief Minister Samir Barman ?

However, BJP leader Subol Bhowmik said that President's rule is not only for free & fair election but it's to stop mass killing. "Everyday one murder is taking place in Tripura. It's intolerable", said Bhowmik.

Alleging deterioration of law and order and attacks on its activists, the BJP on Tuesday demanded President's Rule in Tripura ahead of Assembly elections due in February 2018.

"Many BJP supporters and members have been killed and attacked by CPI-M cadres. Many of our party offices have been destroyed by CPI-M cadres," BJP state chief Biplab Kumar Deb said during a protest outside the West Kotowali police station here.

Earlier, reacting over deteriorating the law and order situation in Tripura leading at least death per day, state BJP has demanded President's rule in Northeast Tripura.

The lawless condition of Tripura has cost another life of a BJP activist at Atharobla, Udaipur today led BJP state leaders to demand President's rule urgently in Tripura, which was followed by various murders, kidnaps in recent days.

Addressing a press meet, BJP topmost leader Jishnu Dev Varma said, “Today, nothing has remained in Tripura as called law and order. From 4th pillar of democracy to common men all are victims of CPI-M’s terror. Women are not safe here, public are killed, kidnapping are going on everyday. So, we demand President's rule”.

“BJP demands President's rule for the interest of people, for the welfare of people and for security of citizens till election”, said Varma.

“Where is Democracy today ? Press people are attacked, attacks are held upon opposition people. So, for a free and fair election, we demand Presidential rule in Tripura”, added Varma.

“If Presidential rule is not given, we will go for further protest. Already we have demanded form Governor”, said Varma.

Sunil Deodhar, BJP State Observer said, “Tripura Chief Minister not only worthless but he is sitting on a chair which is made by people’s blood and dead bodies. Today is a very sad day that last year in December Chanmohon Tripura was killed, which was strongly protested but that killing episodes didn’t stopped there and today another leader has been killed”.

BJP leaders further told press that they will urge the centre for President's rule in Tripura.
