AGARTALA, Nov 24 (TIWN): State BJP delegates have met the full bench of Election Commissioner in demand of fair means of election in Tripura during the upcoming Assembly Election. The BJP team comprises of Tripura BJP Observer Sunil Deodhar, spokesperson Ashok Sinha, BJP National Spokesperson Minankshi Lekhi and also the election committee of Tripura. Analyzing the last few elections held in Tripura, the BJP delegates have urged the Election Commissioner to fulfill their certain demands as : 1) An intensive revision of the electoral role, 2) Utilize its local media to the best of its ability, 3)The use of EVM, VVAPT should be publicized widely to come over the confusion and fear in the mind 4) To ensure that during voting, the face of the voter doesn’t show, 5) The International border should be sealed completely.

The issues and reasons for the appeal :

  1.   An intensive revision of the electoral role : According to BJP, “The last intensive revision was carried out in 2004 and since then no such revision was done A lot of irregularities have been perpetuated and perpetrated the electoral role. Therefore with special purpose regulatory audit an intensive revision of the electoral roles is requested”.
  2. Utilize its local media to the best of its ability : “National Print media have not wide reach in Tripura. The electronic media have wider reach but again its local cable channels and not satellite channels . Hardly any elector awareness programme is carried out. Hence, it is requested to utilize its local media to the best of its ability.
  3. The use of EVM, VVAPT should be publicized widely to come over the confusion and fear in the mind : “The election commission has decided to use EVM with VVPAT in Tripura. That’ll ally the fear in the minds of people that EVMs are manipulated. The use of EVM with VVPAT should be utilized widely by the election commission, so that there is no confusion or fear in the minds of people in face of counter propaganda. People are already misled by saying that they would have to bring the receipt to show it to the CPI-M, once they come out of the booth it would reveal the party they have voted for. The publicity must be very thorough in local languages, including tribal languages and dialects”.
  4. To ensure that during voting, the face of the voter doesn’t show : “Inside polling booth the screen for the voter must be made high enough so that the face of the voter is not visible while voting. Rather than using 2 feet high card board screen a cloth or a cardboard screen must be put so that the face of the voter is not visible from outside”.
  5. Border sealing : International border should be sealed completely to ensure no Bangladeshi gets Indian IPIC.
