AGARTALA, Nov 13 (TIWN): The 2 day long Tripura Assembly Session has begun on Monday with chaos and doldrums as the opposition MLA Ratan Lal Nath raised the issue of Tripura journalist Santanu murder case at the very beginning. MLA Ratanlal Nath asked, "Why instead of the pressure from journalists and oppositions, the Santanu murder case was not handed over to the CBI?". In reply, Chief Minister Manik Sarkar said, "SIT is probing the murder case and we have trust on SIT. Wait till SIT Completes its work". Indirectly, CM also indicated about 'defective' role of CBI, even though directly he didn't mention about it.
CM's statement led further uproars in the Assembly, as the opposition charged the ruling party for being involved in the murder of Tripura TV journalist Santanu Bhowmik who was killed on Sep 20.
Ratan Lal Nath also pinching the CPI-M Govt said, "What SIT will probe ? Time has come for retirement".
Tripura journalist Santanu Bhowmik was killed in a brutal attack during a clash between CPI-M and IPFT at Mandai on Sep 20.
Resident of Jirania, the young journalist was associated with various electronic media who has been killed while covering IPFT and CPI-M clash at Mandai.
The barbaric murder has taken place on Sep 20 afternoon when after getting informed about an ongoing tension on that hilly zone, Santanu rushed to Mandai to cover the incident. But, while covering the event suddenly an attack was held upon him with sharp weapons (Da) and continuously the attackers were injuring him.
However, CPI-M has claimed the murderers were none other than but IPFT activists and IPFT also in return claimed the same.
Opposition parties, maximum journalists demanded CBI probe in Santanu murder case but the CPI-M Govt has been denying CBI and formed a SIT led by Tripura Police which fueled much resentments as under SIT till day not a single sensitive case has been sorted out. Many cases remained unconvicted as Kalpana murder case and accused CPI-M's close people acquitted in the murder case.
