AGARTALA, Aug 1 (TIWN): Chief Minister Manik Sarkar advised young doctors to cultivate social sensitivity and rise above from self-interest on Friday.He was addressing a gathering at the graduation ceremony of the MBBS students of Agartala Government Medical College here. Underlining the need to maintain ethics of the profession, he said this was the need of the hour. Developments in technology have helped the medical sector immensely. Telemedicine has enabled exchange of speedy information. He said medical education should be an instrument of empowerment and at the same time an instrument of social obligation.
Advancement in science and technology fails if the benefits of research do not reach the common people. Medical graduates should strive to ensure that advanced medical facilities reach the poor in society, said Mr. Sarkar
New diseases provide formidable challenge to the medical faculty. The concept of health has changed over the years. People in the medical profession should be sensitised to alleviate the pain of the people.
The Minister for Health Badal Choudhury, Secretary of Health department M. Nagaraju and others participated in the graduation ceremony.
The medical college was established in 2005 and the foundation stone was laid by the Prime Minister of India, Dr. Manmohan Singh. The college is recognised by the Medical Council of India (MCI) and is affiliated to Tripura University. The college is in cooperation with the G.B. Hospital which is the hospital of the college. It is completely run by the government of Tripura.
