Dr. SK Panda leaves state, G Kameshwara Rao assumes charge of new Chief Secretary

AGARTALA, July 31 (TIWN): G Kameshwarara Rao today assumed charge of the Chief Secretary of Tripura. The 1983 MT cadre official today formally signed papers of transfer of charge from the outgoing Chief Secretary Dr. Sanjay Kumar Panda at 12 noon in the civil secretariat at Agartala. Shortly after taking charge as the new Chief Secretary, G Kameshwara Rao wished Dr. Panda best for his next career. Dr. Panda, who left Tripura today, would be taking charge as secretary of the Union Textile Ministry at New Delhi. He would be joining his new office from Friday.

Speaking to reporters after the formalities of transfer of charge ended at the civil secretariat today, Dr. SK Panda said that Tripura held a high potential of development. He wished that the state would surge ahead with proper use of manpower and planning. Dr. SK Panda spent 20 years out of his 34 years of civil service career in Tripura. He joined as Block Development Officer (BDO) at Khowai during the tenure of Late Nripen Chakraborty as the Chief Minister. He served as the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) of Dharmanagar soon afterwards till 1988.

Dr. Panda moved out of the state in 1989, shortly after he met a serious accident in the Atharomura range. With his family out in Orissa, he had a tough time recovering from the accident and the shock. Dr. Panda came back in 1994 and was put in charge of the Department of Handloom and Handicrafts. Chief Secretary Dr. SK Panda was in charge of the post from 2009 till date.

While Additional Chief Secretary Gk Rao was appointed as new Chief Secretary, Pravin Srivastava- senior officer of the MT cadre was learnt to have denied to join the state as Chief Secretary following which the government chose Rao for the post.
