AGARTALA, July 17 (TIWN): An Agartala court Thursday declared lifetime imprisonment to a Tripura newspaper editor-cum-owner who was found guilty in a year-old sensational triple murder case, a government lawyer said here today.Kripankur Chakraborty, additional district and sessions judge of West Tripura district, declared lifetime conviction to Sushil Choudhury who has been found guilty of killing three of his employees who were stabbed in the newspaper office May 19, 2013. Choudhury has been declared guilty under sections 120 (B), 109, 32, IPC 202, 120 (B) 109, 302, 111, 113 and 201 IPC and along with his lifetime imprisonment the court also fined him rupees sixty five thousand.

The building is also the resident of the editor.

"The most criminality in the case is that he tried to divert the whole dimension of the case for his personal gain but failed to do it. My definite assertion was that this type of people, these white coloured offenders should be hanged. Or they will roam around in the society like anybody doing such offences. It should not be repeated," said special public prosecutor Dilip Sarkar adding: “Court has taken it in to-to and said that this is a rarest of a rare case because he was the protector of his employees but instead of protection his employees he has caused the death of his people. So he deserves only punishment that is hanging but considering his old age of 75 years to the court has been given him life conviction.”

Meantime angry public packed in the court tried to block the road in the court premised and assault Choudhury but a huge contingent of paramilitary force already present there escorted the accused editor up to the jail vehicle.

Choudhury, 75, editor-cum-owner of Bengali daily Dainik Ganadoot, along with one of his woman employees was arrested weeks after the murder of three employees.

Choudhury was the main accused. Niyoti Ghosh, wife of Balaram Ghosh, the slain driver of the newspaper's office vehicle, turned approver in the case and was let off.

She was arrested with Choudhury but during the course of investigation, she provided valuable clues to the police. The investigating officer then told her that she could turn an approver, a proposal she accepted.

Driver Balaram Ghosh, manager Ranjit Choudhury, a former BSF employee, and proof reader Sujit Bhattacharjee were murdered in the newspaper's office in the heart of the capital city last year.

Meantime, Bijoy Bhattacharje, father of slain Sujit demanded death penalty of Sushil Chowdhury.

“I wanted that as my son has passed away from the world similar consequence is there for him but since the judgment has been announce I have nothing more to say. He has spoiled my life, I am 58 year old now,” said Bijoy Bhattacharje.

Niyoti Ghosh and her 13-year-old daughter witnessed the murder of Balaram Ghosh, who was stabbed to death by two assailants. The culprits fled from the scene on a motorcycle.

The family lived in the same building in which the newspaper office was situated.
