AGARTALA, Jan 24 (TIWN): Security has been stepped up in Tripura ahead of Republic Day and BSF intensified checking of vehicles at the borders the district shares with neighboring Bangladesh. The BSF official said that they are combing densely populated pockets, including villages, and have increased surveillance and night patrolling. Special measures have been taken to keep a check on anti-social elements to prevent any untoward incident. Specially trained commandos have been given the task to keep vigil across the city, including the entry and exit points in borders. As Tripura sharing a very sensitive border with Bangladesh, thus to ensure a safe Republic Day a tight security arrangement has been ordered across Tripura borders. On the other hand MHA Officials are visiting presently in state ahead and surveying Tripura borders. The MHA Officials also visiting sensitive Muhuri Char which has remained unfenced due to Indo-Bangla disputes. Along with that the team led by Madhukar Gupta will also give a final report to MHA about the regular activity, security, fencing and the trade revenue income from Indo-Bangla border.

However, intelligence agencies and security forces are reviewing arrangements for the upcoming Republic Day functions in Agartala and other subdivisions.

Although high alert is imposed in the state, but there is no militant threat in the state ahead of Republic Day celebrations. Security measures have been taken after reviewing different security aspects. Special emphasis is being given to bus terminuses, public transports and congested markets with sniffer dogs and bomb squads pressed into service.

The Central Reserve Police Force, which has a large presence in Tripura, is entrusted with the task of guarding the national highways and sensitive interior pockets. It is to be mentioned here that a source of the BSF official said the number of camps of militants in northeast India was decreasing in neighbouring Bangladesh. Four north-eastern states share a 1,880-km border with Bangladesh. The states are Tripura (856 km), Meghalaya (443 km), Mizoram (318 km) and Assam (263 km).

Tripura CM Manik Sarkar on the occasion of Police Day-2017 on January 3rd repeats his concern about NLFI ultras active participation in various campaigning related to terror. During his speech at AD Nagar ground, Manik Sarkar said, “It’s true that Tripura has done excellence in counter-terrorism, but the police and army force should not emerge self-satisfaction for this. It’s very much possible that NLFT and other militants are yet residing over Bangladesh who are aggressive to Tripura and other Northeast zones”. Apart from that CM said that Tripura has only 18 btln of Army Force which is not enough for the security of such a border-lined state.

But whereas Tripura is under militancy threat and apart form that from Nigerian to Bangladeshi all are freely entering in State. Sonamura border is has been intentionally delayed in Tripura, although with the Modi govt’s attempts few developments has brought to the fencing work, yet more than 10 KM are unfenced there, whereas 16 KM is at South Tripura, 12 KM at North Tripura.

In last 3 months atleast 6 Nigerians were arrested in Tripura.

However, recently DGP K Nagraj also announced that Tripura in last 2 years, faced zero percent of Terrorism threat, whereas across the whole year one after one militants were nabbed by BSF and Armies.

Moreover 35 % areas are yet remained unsealed across Tripura which is initiating terrorism threat here. Apart from terrorism; smuggling has been the key of the all border related problems.
