AGARTALA, Oct 25 (TIWN): In a shocking development, a Police official was killed in Agartala Chandrapur area on Monday late-night by few intoxicated ( drug addicted) hooligans. SP West Abhijit Saptarshi convened a press meet on Tuesday after getting informed about the death of the police personnel to reiterate zero tolerance against such cases.The murder was committed by 2 intoxicated rowdies against whom Police has charged murder allegation during their nightlong hovering on Agartala City. Addressing the press meet SP West said, “On intervening night of 24 and 25m October 2016, responding to a call of traffic accident , East Agartala PS Police personnel visited Ashram Chowmohani. While Police staff was conducting an enquiry, a motor bike TROl X 8909 (owned by Arindam Das) driven at high speed came from Chandrapur side. The rider recklessly dashed Havildar Pabitra Mohan Rai of 1sT BN TSR who was on duty”.

“The impact was so strong that the Havildar was dragged for 15 meters by the offending vehicle. Victim Policeman was immediately shifted to GBP Hospital but succumbed to his injuries. Based on preliminary investigation it is seen that this is not case of an accident. The rider Nayan Sarkar (21) S/0 Nepal Sarkar of Chowringee Para PS”, added Saptarshi. 

“AD Nagar under influence of alcohol will fully dashed the security personnel on duty standing at the roadside. A criminal case of murder No.1 15/ 16 U/S 302 is registered at East Agartala Police Station. Some media personnel present on the spot extended helping hand to the police in investigation”, said Saptarshi. 

“A strong message is being sent though this case that attack on police personnel on duty will not be tolerated. It will be dealt strictly under legal provisions. The accused is currently hospitalized for minor injuries and will be arrested soon”, added SP.

However, media further raised question that---- just because a police official has been killed, SP is holding press conference, but during the whole year public deaths in such manners are very common in Tripura, but police remains silent on that occasion. SP promised about Zero-Tolerance after experiencing such incidents & vigilance will be increased from now-onwards in Agartala.
