Agartala, May 27 (TIWN): In the wake of controversy, the ‘faulty statue’ of Kabiguru Rabindranath Tagore has been removed from the newly built Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhavan today.
On May 9, Chief Minister Manik Sarkar unveiled the statue of Kabiguru and the newly built Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhavan in presence of thousands of people.

Interesting, the inauguration of faulty statue of Kabiguru and newly built building were opened to mark the Kabiguru’s 154th birth anniversary.

On the day of unveiling, people have started saying that the statue is not matched with the face and attire of Kabiguru.

Deeply upset by the face of statue, some artists even viewed the Rs. 4.20 lakh statue made of fibre glass is resembled with Karl Marx and far way from the real statue of Kabiguru.

Dogged by the controversy, the government has decided to remove the faulty statue of Kabiguru from the Rabindra Satabarishiki Bhavan. Sources said the Information and Cultural Affairs (ICA) department has removed the statue today morning and Priyalal Paul, a local sculpture, who made the statue, was informed about the government decision.

Sources in the ICA department said the government wants one of the leading sculptures be given the task to make the statue of Kabiguru to put and end to the ongoing controversy.

An expert committee is scheduled to meet here on June 9 to find an amicable solution to the deadlock over the statue of Kabiguru.

Now, question arises on the role of expert committee in preparing a faulty statue of Kabiguru. “The expert committee could not avoid its role because local sculpture had made the statue after getting green signal from it. Why it did not take up the matter with the competent authority before installing the faulty statue? The department must take note of expert panel’s role to stop recurrence of such shameful act”, said an eminent artist of the state

The newly constructed Rabindra Bhavan was inaugurated by the Chief Minister Manik Sarkar on May 9 on the birth anniversary of poet Rabindranath Tagore. The Bhavan was built at a cost of Rs 32 crore sanctioned by the Union Ministry for Development of Northeast Region under Non-lapsable central pool of resources with two larger seating capacity auditoriums, state-of-the-art facilities and all other modern arrangements.
