Development project in Tripura at Stake: Expansion of Agartala Airport progressing in snail pace, Kailashahar Aerodrome yet to get a facelift

AGARTALA, May 5 (TIWN): Ministerial Authority where claims about the development in the state, uncertainty loom large over the once started Kailashahar aerodrome due to the lacklustre State Government. Despite of prolonged many months has passed that the Agartala Airport Authority has visited the Kailashahar Aerodrome till day there is no update of any progress of the commencement of the aerodrome. Due to prolonged negligence of the Kailashahar aerodrome, it has turned into barren land. Kailasahar aerodrome, located at Durgapur area under Kailasahar sub-division which was established in the 60th century with small aircraft service, now remains closed for past several years due to lack of passengers and especially due to lack of intervention from the government.Despite of knowing all the facts, the concern authority is least bothered to look into the situation and to take any immediate action.

It is to be mentioned here that in 2011 Airport Authority of India has visited the Kailsahar airport with  an aim to reopen it, however, after passage of years no up gradation is reported in  the  airport rather is has become a spot for the cattle’s to graze.

On the other hand, despite of several months has passed the progress in the extension project of Agartala Airport is also running at snail pace.

Despite of many months has passed the progress is yet dealing with the work of Project Management Consultant.

It is to be mentioned here that after the completion of the project management work than only the work will be progressed. Reportedly, with the completion of the Project Management Work the concern authority is going to call for the construction tender.

Later on, with the finalization of tender of any construction agency the authority will go for further work.

According to the earlier reports, as a part of the expansion plan, a total of four aero bridge provisions are likely to be there in the new terminal building.

Further, it has been mentioned that the estimate cost for constructing the new terminal building is expected to be around Rs. 250 crore. Besides, in order to beef up the security in the Airport, 87 CCTV cameras have been installed in the airport.
