Agartala, Sept 18 (TIWN) The growing volumes of solid wastes are major threats to the environment and sustainable development of Agartala city said Chief Executive Officer of Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC), Milind Ramteke. He stated that daily on average 250MT of solid waste is being generated in the city which increases during the period of festivals such as Durga Puja, however the extent of industrial waste is almost negligible as there is no major industries inside Agartala city.
The CEO informed that at present new initatives are being taken up and are planned to be implemented in near future as per the guidlines mentioned in Solid Waste Management (SWM) toolkit given by JnNURM. “AMC is going to set up 250 tonnes per day capacity solid waste processing plant. Fund is made available by Tripura Government, it will be operational by March 2014.There will be also generation of eco bricks” adds Mr. Ramtheke
The top brass of AMC said work has already started for construction of RCC covered drain worth of Rs 200 crore under 13 finance commission grant in aid.Covering of the drains shall create space for foothpaths and shall ease congestion and traffic on the road.
