Pradesh Congress remembers the Father of Nation

AGARTALA, Jan 30 (TIWN): Along with the nation, state also remembered the father of nation on Saturday.

Reportedly, the congress leaders have paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi on his death anniversary at the Gandhi Ghat.

Later, at Congress Bhawan the leaders have paid floral tribute in front of the portrait of the Mahatma Gandhi and hoisted the national flag.

However, the District Committee of Congress in the State also observed the day and paid tribute to the Mahatma Gandhi.

During the programme, PCC President Birajit Sinha, MLA Ashish Saha and others were also present.

It is to be mentioned here that Martyrs’ Day marks the death anniversary of the father of nation, Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi assassinated on January 30 in the year 1948.

However, to mark the day and to pay tribute to the martyrs Sirens are blown at every government establishment around 11 am in the morning. When everyone at that time be it in industrial units or government offices even the commoners stop their work and observe silence for two minutes as a remembrance of the martyred souls.

Later, the siren again blows after two minutes which indicates that the people can resume their work.

To mark the day Prime Minister and chiefs of the armed forces salute the martyrs at India Gate.

Mahatma Gandhi was born on October 2, 1869 and was assassinated on January 30, in the year 1948.

Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi was assassinated on Jan 30, 1948, by Nathuram Godse.

As Godse held Gandhi responsible for the partition of India thus he shot Gandhiji. However, Nathuram Godse was hanged on November 15, 1949.

However, according to the history, following nonviolent civil disobedience Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi has led India to independence and inspired movements for civil rights and freedom across the world.

The honorific Mahatma has been first applied to him in the year 1914 in South Africa. In India Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi is also popular as Bapu.

However, it is to be mentioned here that in India the anniversary of the assassination of Mahatma Gandhi on January 30, is also being celebrated as Martyr's Day.
