AGARTALA, Oct 10 (TIWN): Commenting on the question put up on dilapidated condition of the NH-44 over past few months, Union Development of the North eastern Region (DoNER) Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh on Friday in a press communiqué at Secretariat said that the development work of the NH44 does not come under the administration of the DoNER ministry rather it is administered by Minister of Road Transport and Highways of India (MoRTH), Nitin Gadkari and State Governments. Minister of Road Transport and Highways of India (MoRTH) is responsible for the progress of the development work of the NH44. Central Govt has sponsored enough funds and development work, said Dr.Singh. It is to be mentioned here that the condition of National Highway has worsened after it was handed over to the State PWD by NHAI, which raised hopes among the commuters that their transportation problems will come to an end. But their hopes evaporated as the condition of the NH-44 is getting worsened day by day. After taking over the charge of maintenance of NH-44, the PWD is not working up to the mark. After the Ministry of Road Transport and Highway (MORTH) handed over development and maintenance of 104 km of the Assam Agartala National Highway (NH-44) to the PWD from Border Roads Organization (BRO) in July 16th, 2013, the condition of the NH-44 is getting worse day-by-day due to negligence of State PWD,which is headed by Minister Badal Chowdhury.

The busy NHC road which was opened after NH-44 became unworthy for trafficking, has become risky with a huge part of NHC road had broken down.

According to the report as the movement of vehicles on NH-44 has been stopped, along with the halt of Rain-lines service, the load on alternative NHC has been increased more.

NHC road, which was left in bad condition, neglected since years, just used in emergency time, suddenly with increasing pressure upon it, the road-condition has been worsened, due to this the way has become risky for vehicle movement.
