AGARTALA, Oct 9 (TIWN): With no basement and parking facilities, one after another high rise buildings are being constructed at state’s main referral hospital, IGM. The role of state government for allowing such unscientific construction at a place where hundreds of people come every day.
Are there any guidelines or building plans for constructing any high rise buildings in the state? If there any exists, then it’s only applicable for private builders. Whereas, government builders are openly violating the guidelines and AMC is just a mute spectator. The double standard role of AMC is giving rise to resentment.
After GBP hospital was made medical college hospital in 2005, IGM was declared as state civil hospital. As per Medical Council of India (MCI) guidelines all kinds of facilities should be available at civil hospital. However, the state government even after ten years failed to fulfill the guidelines of MCI. As a result patients have to rush to GBP hospital failing to get services at IGM. The government instead of improving the medical facilities’ gave more attention for constructing some high rise buildings from the money received from centre.
Two years back a seven storied building was constructed at IGM with no provision of basement, ramp and car parking facilities. The unscientific construction is causing problem In going to different storeys of the building and parking vehicles. While planning the building, PWD totally ignored patient’s capability to reach top floors. Still now no ramp has been constructed and lifts remain out of order frequently.
But PWD is repeating the same mistake again. AT IGM a 10 – storied, 8 – storied, 5 – storied and a 3 – storied building will be constructed without any provision for basement and parking areas. For this soil testing is going on. There is limited space in IGM area, if all the high rise buildings are constructed without basements and parking facilities, than in future people have to suffer due to the fault of state government.
