HC to hear TSGF’s plea on private tuition, Students and Guardians beg for continuing private tuition

AGARTALA, July 23 (TIWN): Tripura High Court to hear the private tuition issue soon as the Tripura Students’ Guardian Forum (TSGF) had recently filed an affidavit before the HC seeking continuation of private tuition by government teachers before drawing a conclusion. The guardians claimed that they are not against the ban of private tuition but the students are bound to go the private tutors as the teachers inducted in government schools are not recruited in merit basis, they claimed.They also claimed that the sudden ban on the private tuition would hamper the future of the students as they are already under process preparing for the board examination and the dependence on private tutors has come up important for the students.They said that, their children’s can get better guidance in private tuition than school. Private tuition is very essential for their children, especially if the student is preparing for Joint entrance examination or board examination.The guardians’ body also criticized the poor infrastructure prevalent in schools. One of the apprehensions of the parents of students has been that in the absence of private tuition, students from the state may not be able to compete with their counterparts in other states who get specialized coaching.

“But we are not against the ban on private tuition in principle, what is a matter of concern is that at this moment we cannot stop our wards from going to the private tuition as the board examination in very near whereas the teachers also needs to guide our wards towards scoring well i8n examination,” claimed the petitioners who had filed an affidavit with the HC recently.

The court also served notices to 15 principals of private schools where teachers were allegedly engaged in private tuition seeking their reply by July 31 next. Despite having a ban on private tuition by government school teachers, there is no visible action against any violator.

Besides, it has also been learnt that just after the HC had passed the order a section of teachers had stopped the private practises. Interestingly the guardians’ body in view of the ban of private tuition claimed that the state government had failed to provide a better infrastructures in schools at many parts of the state as a result the quality education has got ruined at present.

The newly-formed Tripura Student’s Guardian Forum accused the ruling Left Front Government of Tripura of not appointing teachers on the basis of merit.
