AGARTALA, July 23 (TIWN): Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe likely to be ordered for Tripura Chit fund scams as the Under Secretary of Rashtrapati Bhawan, New Delhi Purushottam Dass referring to the letter of Congress had mentioned in a letter issued on Wednesday to PCC President that the same has been sent to the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, New Delhi. The congress delegation on June 16 met President of India Pranab Mukherjee seeking his intervention for CBI probe into the Non Banking Financial Companies scam in Tripura. The Congress demanded immediate arrest of a section of Tripura ministers who had alleged links with the chit fund companies alongwith proprietors of these companies.Congress delegation requested the President to make necessary initiatives to return the deposited money of the chit fund victims at the earliest. The Congress delegation came to Pranab Mukherjee after getting no response from Prime Minister Narendra Modi.Tripura Congress also raised their voice for CBI probe at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi on June 17. Opposition Leader Sudip Roy Barman said that Chief Minister Manik Sarkar and his ministers have encouraged people to invest in ponzi schemes of Rose Valley, whose chairman Gautam Kundu is in custody for alleged money laundering.“CPI-M and Chief Minister's praise for the company encouraged people to invest in such schemes. What prompted the chief minister to speak in favour of Rose Valley?" asked Burman.

While the government had written to the CBI for probing the chit fund scam, Barman claimed it deliberately did not specify the amount of money involved in the scam while writing to the CBI to probe the Rose Valley Group in 2013, only to ensure that it was not investigated.

"We demand a CBI probe into the activities of all illegal non-banking financial companies (NBFCs) and chit fund organisations in Tripura," said Burman alleging that chit fund companies flourished whenever the Left Front was in power in the state.

However, it is worthy to mention here that Sarkar, a Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) politburo member, had earlier denied his government's involvement in the Rose Valley group after Sudip Burman published photographs of the Marxist leader attending an event of the tainted company.

Besides, the AICC members at Delhi had urged the government to work out a process to ensure that the duped investors get back their money, said the source from Delhi. Barman further alleged that if a proper investigation is held, several ministers and CPI (M) leaders will find themselves behind the bars.
