AGARTALA, July 16 (TIWN): Despite bad weather the entrusted engineers of the Nagarjuna Construction Company are actively engaged to the construction work of Agartala’s first ever 2 lane flyover road which would link Drop Gate with Fire brigade Chowmuhni via Battala. Besides, the encroachment issue has hit eviction drive to be carried out by the administration, following which DM West had assured that after conducting enquiry the land acquisition would be carried out, said official.

After Battala, considered to be the main centre point of the flyover construction work, the engineers had carried out the drilling procedure up to Bordowali area amidst deployment of traffic police.

Besides, the incessant rain had failed to bring any barrier in the construction work which undergoes in full swing for Agartala to have its first flyover with the Left front government eyeing forward to bring a revolution to the history of land-locked Tripura.

The administrative official in view of the encroachment issue said that for the time being the land acquisition or the eviction drive would not be carried out which would be done only after deep enquiry to the illegal acquisition of land.

The official said that a section of people who had illegally acquired the land mainly from Bordowali to Drop gate, had issued the land acquisition process claiming not to release their land which is actually illegally acquired.

However, after conducting a deep enquiry to the land acquisition the eviction drive would be carried out prior to major construction of the flyover, said the official.

Recently, the authority of Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) issued notice to almost all residents and shop keepers to give up 9 feet land to undertake fly over project. However, they are reluctant to give up required land citing on the ground that they had already given the land twice.

A delegation of Bhoomi Suraksha Committee met District Magistrate (DM), West Tripura Dr. Milind K. Ramteke on Thursday and gave him a memorandum seeking suspension of land acquisition for the fly over.

The entrusted Nagarjuna Construction Company (NCC) had already brought some heavy equipments for the construction work comprising of drilling machineries and others whereas rest of the equipments would be brought to kick off the major parts of the construction work.

The main motive of creating the Fly-Over Bridge is to seek the solution for maintaining the Traffic system in the city. As day by day the population and the number of vehicles are increasing, the problems arise in traffic system too.

Besides, senior officer (Traffic) said that the department had taken up certain initiatives to restrict traffic congestion during the construction work. Additional traffic police were deployed from Battala to Bordowali area, said officer.

As many as 100 pillars will cover the 2.5 km fly over. Once fly over is constructed, vehicles from the Nagerjala bus stand will continue to ply on the same path. It means the vehicles leaving Nagerjala will not be allowed to catch the fly over to avoid traffic congestion.

A subway of the fly over will be created upto Melarmath. As per the layout of the project, the Banayan tree and the temple at Battala will be remained untouched by the fly over. The first ever 2-lane flyover in the capital city will lower the traffic jam by at least 40% to 45% and it will make a smooth fast track movement of the vehicles.
