 Mega awareness camp cum seminar on disaster management held at Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhawan

Agartala, March 31 (TIWN): A mega awareness camp cum seminar on disaster management was held at Rabindra Satabarsiki Bhawan today. PWD and Health Minister Badal Chowdhury had inaugurated the camp. Among other dignitaries, Minister Khagendra Jamatia was present as Chief Guest. Councilor Ratna and Councilor, Chitra Debbarma had honored the dias as President and Chief Guest. Apart from that Puneet Agarwal hold the dias as special guest. The programme was organized by Fire Service Department.

Delivering speech at the programme, Mr. Chowdhury told that, police department should constitute a team to deal effectively with disasters and natural calamity. For this they will need proper training. Minister further added that it is the duty of the Nature to create calamity. So, every possible step should be arranged to tackle the situation.

Minister Khagendra Jamatia told that this type of programmes were arranged with the objective to see the coordination of different agencies in order to ensure an organized and structural mechanism, and to see the functioning of allied agencies during the disastrous situation.

It was also meant to build the capacity of the staff and to assess the preparedness of the concerned agencies and the people. A pledge for disaster preparedness was also administered among the staff, which also got to use some of the disaster fighting equipments and get information on their uses.

The important topics on institutional mechanism and disaster management in Tripura, an overview on management of chemical and biological hazard, impact of earthquake and remedial measures , flood and rivers of Tripura , manmade disasters like fire, gas leakages were  discussed by different eminent persons.

All the eight North Eastern states and16 cities come under the seismic zone with a high degree of risk and vulnerability to high intensity earthquakes. Tripura comes under zone five of seismic zone with a high degree of risk and vulnerability to high intensity earthquakes.
