AGARTALA, May 6 (TIWN): In a major step taken by Tripura Child Welfare Commission, members visited Charilam resident Soma Debnath’s home on Tuesday. Soma Debnath is a talented girl who got 94% in Madhyamik examination under Tripura Board of Secondary Education. She also got letter marks in all five subjects, but she almost gave up on studying science due to the financial crisis that gripped her family since her father died in 2021. Soma also needs financial support for her treatment, and this sponsorship will be helpful to cover both her education and medical care cost.
Today, the Child Welfare Commission delegates visited her home, talked to her and her mother.
Talking to media, Protection Officer, Non-institutional care of the District Child Protection unit Anima Saha said, “We are proceeding with a sponsorship scheme for her and would try that she gets it soon. It will benefit her with Rs. 4,000 monthly stipend to continue her education.”
"As soon as she applies, we will start the process," said Das.
Resident of South Charilam’s Madhya Panchayat Para Soma Debnath yesterday told media, while tears were rolling down her eyes, “My father was always proud of me. Today, when I got 94%, I am missing him so much. I told my mother many times, if my Baba were alive, how proud he would have been seeing my results.”
Soma Debnath's mother yesterday appealed for widow-pension so that she at least can afford her education.
Today, with great surprise, Child Welfare Commission declared to sponsor her education and treatment so that she can continue her education.
