AGARTALA, Jan 30 (TIWN): To get a grip over the 40 non-ST seats, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday claimed that it was BJP to decide about ‘fighting alone’, whereas the ground report says that it was Tipra Motha who refused to go for any alliance with the BJP as Home Minister Amit Shah failed to give any written assurance to Tipra Motha about constitutional solution for Greater Tipraland. Himanta Biswa Sarma took multiple attempts to convince Pradyot Manikya for an alliance with the BJP and it was he who arranged a meeting of Pradyot Manikya with Amit Shah but when BJP failed to bend Pradyot Manikya, now Himanta Biswa Sarma is claiming that it was BJP who decided not to fight in a poll by aligning with any party.

"Fighting alone and winning without any alliance is important for BJP because it is important to save the unity of Tripura. We have given some seats to IPFT because they are our friends", said Sarma.

On January 27, Pradyot Manikya declared that his Party Tipra Motha is going to fight alone. “My heart did not permit for the alignment. Yes, we went to Delhi and it was widely broadcasted. We didn’t hide but they (BJP) failed to give us anything in writing. I already said that I will not compromise and only go for the alliance if any party promises me in writing about constitutional solution for the Greater Tipraland matter. We are going to announce the candidates’ list today”, said Pradyot Manikya on his social media page.

Tipra Motha party, the ruling ADC Party in Tripura although initiated his party with Tiprasa (local tribe) based community but within a short period of time, the party reached out to non-tribe voters including religious minorities. Also, a major section of non-BJP voters joined Tipra Motha due to lack strong opposition in ADC, deep rural areas.

From this perspective, the decision of Tipra Motha is strategically correct because under BJP-IPFT’s aligned Govt from 2018 to 2023, BJP had successfully destroyed IPFT’s all existence although before 2018 Election IPFT was hugely popular among the Tiprasa. Now, to save the core-policy image of the Tipra Motha party, the decision of non-alignment and no compromise has been analyzed as a strong decision which is to strengthen the acceptability of the party to the public.

Tripura Poll is to be held on February 16 and the result will be declared on March 2nd.
