New Delhi, Nov 27 (TIWN): Today MP Jiten Chaudhury led a delegation of Tripura MPs and met Union Civil Aviation Minister Ashok Gajapathi Raju and sought Centre's help to improve Agartala Airport and frequency of flights in North East region.
Three Tripura MPs, Jiten Chaudhury, Sankar Prasad Datta, Jharna Das Baidya today met Civil Aviation Minister Ashok Gajapati Raju and placed these demands.
1. To increase at least 3(three) more flights between Kolkata-Agartala sector, two in the morning and another one in the evening, that the passengers from Agartala could easily avail the flight and trains to the other destinations from Kolkata.
2. To introduce an Air India flight on Agartala-Kolkata-Delhi route OR route of 1(one) Air India flight on Agartala-Kolkata Sector may be designed such way that the passengers could avail the Delhi bound Air India flights, without wasting time in Kolkata Airport beyond legitimate.
3. Restoration of Air India ATR flights on Agartala-Kolkata and Agartala-Silchar-Guwahati routs. These flights were discontinued in January, 2013.
4. To review the fare structure, now being claimed by the different airliners, including Air India, which is almost two to three times in comparison to the other sectors of the country.
5. Up gradation of Agartala Airport and declaration of the Airport as International Airport with connectivity to Dhaka, Chittagong and other destinations of far east.
6. Development and operationalisation of Kailashahar and Kamalpur Airports for connectivity to the remote parts of the Tripura and other NE States.
7. To commence the construction work of new Terminal building, new tarmac and other facilities at an earliest for which State Government has already handed over the land to the Airport Authority.
