AGARTALA, July 31 (TIWN): Although law is said "equal" for everyone, but in Tripura it is different. Once again, it has been proven when one of the accused persons Karnajit Dey, who are involved in spitting on Doctor Sangeeta Chakraborty at Bhagat Singh COVID-19 care centre, is now under protection of Govt indirectly.

Karnajit Dey is an advocate, is known very close to CM Biplab Deb and a BJP fellow. He was involved in spitting on Doctors at Bhagat Singh COVID-19 Care Centre recently. According case was filed against him.

But to avoid his arrest, he was sent to Govt's isolation centre after he recovered, so that police can't arrest him. Police yet have failed to submit CD of the case in High Court. Tripura High Court judge has given time to submit case diary by 5th August. So, it is clear that by this time, Govt advocates are trying to manage his anticipatory bail. Additional PP had sought more time for case diary's submission.

Accused Karnajit Dey is a close associate of BJP's Advocate General Arun Bhowmik, whose Bangladeshi citizenship still under scanner.

This has resulted in massive criticism among public and justice of Doctors is under question.

Total four COVID-19 patients were booked after they allegedly abused and spat on a woman doctor at a health facility here, police said on Thursday.

A police official said that the four accused, who have recovered from the disease, will be arrested after the completion of their seven-day institutional quarantine period.

“Some coronavirus patients last week spat at and aggressively abused West Tripura District Health Surveillance Officer Sangita Chakraborty at a Covid care centre in Agartala when she had gone there on Friday to admit five women who had given birth to babies a day before,” the police officer said.

Chakraborty also told the media: “One of the patients rinsed his mouth and spat on my head from the roof of the Covid care centre, forcing me to rush inside the centre.”

She said they had reached the care centre with a health department team and police personnel to admit the new patients when a group of people, men and women, obstructed and falsely claimed that there were no vacant beds in the centre.

“When requested by the other doctors and nurses to return to their beds, some of them started agitating using filthy language, spat at me and threatened to touch me and infect me with coronavirus,” the health officer said.

Tripura Health and Family Welfare Department Director Radha Debbarma said that the appropriate authority would take stern action against the accused persons.
