AGARTALA, March 2 (TIWN): Amid no financial package could be given to the poor people, due to the seriousness of the pandemic, Tripura Law Minister Ratanlal Nath has asked people, including Rickshaw drivers to eat only rice by mixing with salt but not to come out of home. Addressing media, Ratanlal Nath said, “We have been continuously telling the Rickshaw drivers and everyone that amid our financial low capacity, we announced financial package for them. You are rickshaw driver, who works to give food to family but if you die or if you infect your family members with virus, what is the meaning of that livelihood ? Not only rickshaw drivers but I want to tell everyone, please be alert. From today the administration, police will be more strict and handle the situation with tightness. We have launched market in big fields to maintain social distance. Vegetable sellers are going to various areas and many fish sellers are also going but our main duty. Right now it is most crucial stage and more 12 days needed to be strictly followed. The countries which are suffering highest from COVID-19 are understanding what type of war is this. If nothing, just eat rice with salt but still you will survive”.

He further said, strict action will be taken against those Rickshaw drivers who are creating problems.

Delhi government on Friday transferred Rs 5,000 each to eight lakh beneficiaries under widow, differently-abled and elderly pension schemes while promising to transfer another Rs 5,000 in the first week of April to help them tide over the crisis emerging out of the spread of COVID-19 and the subsequent national lock-down.

Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said the eight lakh beneficiaries include five lakh elderly, two lakh widows and one lakh disabled. He said another installment will be paid in the first week of next month.

Thus the total amount is Rs. 10,000.

He also appealed to migrant workers leaving Delhi to come back saying the government is arranging food for them. The Delhi government on Friday enhanced the capacity to serve two lakh people from 20,000 while it plans to double it to four lakh from Saturday.

In a recent update in Tripura it has been known, various households are getting back their maids in homes and also rickshaw drivers are on road amid FIR’s chances, affecting the Lockdown’s purpose and social distances. Whereas Delhi Govt is giving Rs. 5,000 + Rs. 5000 = Rs. 10,000 to each poor/daily worker without any relief fund, here in Tripura crores and crores were donated in CM’s relief fund but Govt neither announcing the fund amount nor helping the poor with cash.

Today, Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a video conference with the Chief Ministers to discuss the measures to contain the spread of COVID-19 pandemic. Tripura CM Biplab Deb also attended the meeting via video conference.

The conference comes in the backdrop of increasing number of cases of COVID-19 patients across the country which is under 21-day lockdown to break the chain of transmission of the disease.

The meeting is significant in terms of measures that have so far been taken by all the states, Union Territories as well as the central government to meet various challenges triggered by the crisis.
