AGARTALA, Jan 21 (TIWN): Hearing on former CPI-M Minister Badal Chowdhury’s bail petition was done today, whereas the order to be passed tomorrow. Both Govt side and Badal Chowdhury’s lawyers are confident that the order will be in their favour.Addressing media, advocate Arindam Bhattacharjee on behalf of Badal Chowdhury said, “As Badal Chowdhury is hospitalized, so he could not be produced before the Court but about the bail, both sides have exchanged arguments. What we said, was after 75 days of Badal Chowdhury’s custody police could not place any logical claim for what Badal Chowdhury should be kept in jail custody. From the Govt side, it was argued that at least 90 days a person can be kept in jail and thus 15 days can be added easily, but they could cite any reason why Badal Chowdhury should be kept in jail”. “We tried to explain to the court that the whole issue was done following processes and thus there is nothing to be hide. The whole project continued by proper meeting and after advises taken from experts”.

“The total process was done with Work Advisory Board (WAB), Supplies Advisory Board (SAB) meeting in the presence of Chief Secretary and Law Secretary. Thus here is no personal role of Badal Chowdhury. Moreover, Division bench also accepted that Badal Chowdhury was not connected with any cheating at all. Thus no cheating section can be imposed on him. With all these, we have argued and now waiting for the judgement which will be declared tomorrow”, said Arindam Bhattacharjee.
