TIWN Dec 9, 2019

AGARTALA, Dec 9 (TIWN): CPI-M’s indigenous wing Gana Mukti Parishad has announced total support to all regional parties whoever protesting against Citizenship Amendment Bill. Addressing media, former MP Jitendra Choudhury said, “After independence of India, this day can be marked as the darkest day of Indian Parliamentary history. Union Home Minister Amit Shah by placing such an unconstitutional bill in the Parliament has broken down the foundation of our constitution by targeting a particular religion. This will not only create tension here but also neighboring countries where fundamentalists led tensions are already high it will increase more and it may increase massive levels of attacks on the religious minorities at there”. In press meet led by former MP Jitendra Choudhury, ADC CEM Radhacharan Debbarma, former Minister Naresh Jamatia and youth leaders of indigenous cell of CPI-M have forwarded a “total support” to the anti-CAB protest.

ADC CEM Radhacharan Debbarma said that although BJP could not do anything to develop the country but expert in anti-people decisions.

Ex-Minister Naresh Jamatia said, "Any developed country follows secularism policy, otherwise, it's condition remains as Pakistan like countries. Moreover, the base of our freedom movement was based on unity among all religions".

When regional parties have called strike, more than 15 Govt employees reportedly left injured in the state as BJP-IPFT Govt ordered all Govt employees to attend the office anyhow whereas no security was deployed to them. A massive attack have left many school teachers severely injured led by BJP’s ally IPFT Party.

When BJP Government and leaders have blamed the regional parties in Tripura for calling strike and halting public movement, regional parties under Joint Movement announced that even they don’t want any disturbance neither anyone’s problem. All they want just the cancellation of CAB in the Northeast. With this statement, the Joint movement has announced tomorrow also they will be continuing their strike programme against “unconstitutional” Citizenship Amendment Bill. Today attacks on around 15 teachers by miscreants (reports alleged IPFT) was too condemned by the regional parties together. Royal scion Pradyot Manikya is moving to Supreme Court and sought all regional parties help whereas CPI-M in a press meet pointed as the anti-Muslim tune in the bill. Analysis reveals, there was a massive propaganda in support of IPFT’s protest more than the protest size itself but amid massive protest against Citizenship Amendment Bill, no IPFT Minister or MLA was seen today in protest against CAB.

On being asked by media IPFT leaders who were present in the agitation said that they have nothing to do with the protest of other regional parties.

On the other side, Tiprasa leaders in the BJP party on the onset of the Strike by regional parties had cleared their stands on Citizenship Amendment Bill. MLA Rampada Jamatia has opposed CAB whereas MP Rebati Tripura asked indigenous people and leaders to talk to the Govt instead of creating Strike like disruptions and indiscipline in the state. The MP said, first of all, Tripura’s all political parties didn’t attend the meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah but those who met, Amit Shah told them not to do any such thing which will cause economic problems to the state.

Important to mention that on November 30, 2019 Union home minister Amit Shah has assured political parties and regional groups that the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill (CAB) will not be implemented in the Northeast, various media had reported the same on that time, but now, BJP Govt is just rushing at the opposite direction of their promise, whereas Himanta Biswa Sarma, Assam Minister said that NRC and CAB are combo package for Assam. Ahead of the indefinite strike called by various regional parties, Tripura MP Rebati Tripura has delivered a message to the regional parties and the opposition parties to withdraw any such decision which may affect the economic situation of the state. He condemned the indefinite strike programme totally, called by regional parties.

CAB STRIKE DAY 1 (TRIPURA) : Massive protests were staged by various regional parties, NGOs against Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB) in Tripura today and Govt of Tripura deployed securities to maintain the peace and harmony across the state, specially in the sensitive areas. When all regional parties together launched massive protest against CAB, BJP’s ally IPFT which is another regional party in Tripura has observed a separate protest against CAB with 12 hours strike. Reportedly, the Joint Movement Against Citizenship Amendment Bill (JMACAB), cluster of Tiprasa regional parties, NGOs, NESO called indefinite strike and Tripura United Indigenous People Council (TUIPC) has also called it for 50 hours and IPFT for 12 hours. However, ruling BJP’s political partner IPFT told media, they do not have any relation with other regional parties in the protest although the subject matter is same in the movement.

The protest across Tripura remained peaceful and democratic, whereas police officials were seen convincing the IPFT Tiprasa leaders to withdraw the strike and later detained all the agitators. On the other side, a joint movement committee has called for strike in an indefinite time in the state unless CAB is dismissed totally. On being asked by media, IPFT leaders said that there is no link of IPFT with the rest of the regional parties and IPFT’s 12 hours strike to be conducted till 6 pm which started from 6 am today. However, IPFT top leaders were seen missing from the protest.

Resentment erupted after institutions were kept open in the ADC areas under Tripura Govt’s order.
