AGARTALA, Nov 17 (TIWN): In a rare insult to Justice system and Special Court Judge’s Order, IO of former CPI-M Minister Badal Chowdhury case, Ajay Kumar Das illegally interrogated Badal Chowdhury after sunset and allegedly slapped seriously ill ex-Minister Badal Chowdhury inside Bisalgarh Jail yesterday evening. Quite unexpectedly, allegation raised against I/O-Ajay Kumar Das for breaking laws massively and treating the former Minister cum MLA against his designation violating court’s order and mentally and physically torturing Badal Chowdhury inside jail. This whole incident deteriorated Badal Chowdhury’s health and then immediately taken to Bishalgarh hospital and then referred to GB hospital. Multiple times, due to police’s torture Badal Chowdhury’s health fell in last one month and the interrogation of yesterday was done in a closed room breaking many protocols.

According to Badal Chowdhury’s lawyers’ sources and also a huge popular Bengali newspaper “Kalamer Shakti”, Badal Chowdhury was slapped by I/O-Ajay Kumar Das on yesterday during the interrogation process.

The source further informed, “Badal Chowdhury’s health downed due to I/O-Ajay Kumar Das’s mistreating, who breaking jail code entered the jail at 5.30 pm and interrogated him in a single room, which was closed, although Court instructed a room which is comfortable with air and light must be taken for ill Badal Chowdhury and proper respect should be given according to his designation, but nothing was maintained and breaking jail code, Ajay Kumar Das entered to the jail at 5.30 pm and continued interrogation till 6.45 pm. Immediately after the interrogation, Badal Chowdhury’s health fell and allegation raised, Badal Chowdhury was slapped too by the Police officer.

Not only this, the news report also said that after the interrogation, a phone was received by the Jail authority. It happened in the presence of I/O-Ajay Kumar Das. Then Badal Chowdhury was shifted in a separate room, which is unworthy to be lived.

All these left Badal Chowdhury’s health critical. Thus, when he was taken to Bishalgarh Hospital, referred to GB hospital and after primary checkup, Badal Chowdhury was shifted in the ICU.

Even inside the ICU also instead of Jail Police, police station’s police were seen, which is another violation of normal procedure of Jail custody. So far Badal Chowdhury is admitted in GB’s ICU.

At least 3 to 4 times, Badal Chowdhury’s health turned critical in last one month due to police’s torture and inhuman treating.

Right now, Badal Chowdhury is in ICU, his health is critical. When court sent Badal Chowdhury in JC, rejecting police remand on 15^th November, Badal Chowdhury’s health status was “fit” and within one day, Police torture downed his health, led him to be admitted in ICU. Now it’s clear what would happen, if Badal Chowdhury was given for police remand.

Same type of mistreating inside Police lockup recently caused one 19 years old boy Mangal Das’s murder at the R K Pur Police station by R K Pur Police officer Pritam Dutta on October 31st, 2019 and then illegal post mortem in night, burning Mangal Das's body by deceiving his mother.
