AGARTALA, Nov 7 (TIWN): After 22 years of refugee life in own country, the Brus at Kanchanpur, North Tripura are not interested to go back to Mizoram as the Mizoram Govt has failed to welcome the Brus according to the deal it made with the Brus. Neither they were provided with proper land, accommodation nor they were welcomed at state Mizoram. Former MP Jitendra Choudhury said that the Brus alleged, the Mizoram administration told directly the Brus that Mizoram is not like Tripura and thus they have to live according to Mizoram Govt’s will only and their houses were too given in scattered manner. The Dasda-Ananda Bazar road is still blocked in Tripura in demand of food but although Govt continuously sending forces, administrative persons are rushing to the spot but so far no food was given to the Brus (also known as Reang).

50 persons hospitalized and 6 died according to report till yesterday. But the halt in the supplies of ration continues at the camp. National top Congress national leader Jairam Ramesh during his recent visit told media that this inhuman activity not only subjected of “inhumanity” but also matter of “violation of Food Security Act 2013”.The Congress leader has demanded strict action against the Officers who have been involved in this illegal activity including Chief Minister by cutting supply of rations.

The National Food Security Act, 2013 (also Right to Food Act) is an Act of the Parliament of India which aims to provide subsidized food grains to approximately two thirds of India's 1.2 billion people. It was signed into law on 12 September 2013, retroactive to 5 July 2013. The National Food Security Act, 2013 (NFSA 2013) converts into legal entitlements for existing food security programmes of the Government of India. 

It includes the Midday Meal Scheme, Integrated Child Development Services scheme and the Public Distribution System. Further, the NFSA 2013 recognizes maternity entitlements. The Midday Meal Scheme and the Integrated Child Development Services Scheme are universal in nature whereas the PDS will reach about two-thirds of the population (75% in rural areas and 50% in urban areas).

Under the provisions of the bill, beneficiaries of the Public Distribution System (or, PDS) are entitled to 5 kilograms (11 lb) per person per month of cereals at the following prices:

Rice at ?3 (4.3¢ US) per kg

Wheat at ?2 (2.9¢ US) per kg

Coarse grains (millet) at ?1 (1.4¢ US) per kg.

Pregnant women, lactating mothers, and certain categories of children are eligible for daily free cereals.

Children are dying in Bru camp as the hungry mothers are unable to feed them milk. Such inhumanity against the Brus was never experienced in Tripura.
