NERAMAC yawns for loss on poor quality oranges in Tripura

Agartala, October 31 (TIWN): NERAMAC, the central government organization boosted by Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) that was initiated in Tripura resting on prime orange cultivation in state has now become a lackluster firm with environmental affect damaging the major hub of orange production at Jampui in state.

The state has though not shutdown NERAMAC, as alternate business projects on cashew nuts was sanctioned on 1994 – Cashew Processing Unit (CPU) in state capital city and Fruit Juice Concentration Plant (FJCP), Nalkata, commissioned in 1988 with a budget of Rupees 3.62 crore.

However, the weather and environmental change in state has badly hit and impacted over orange production in Tripura’s Jampui subdivision, that was once – one of the biggest revenue generators in state with quality of its fruit production in countrywide arena.

The orange production site has now been drifted from Jampui Hills to Killa in Udaipur subdivision, but the quality has deteriorated in fruits that are supplied in local market and also purchased by NERAMAC for running of its FJCP project in state.

It can be indirectly pointed on whether rubber plantation projects in Tripura has had such a poor impact on Tripura’s naturally growing prime industry of fruit production with branded availability of quality oranges in state.

This has had a poor effect in NERAMAC factory for maintaining quality of orange extracts in such a renowned food industry initiated by Central government long back in 80s. The industry based on local fruit was once a booming firm that has also given handsome revenue to the state, but with changing climate system, even NERAMAC has sniffed the organizational loss due to poor supply of raw materials (oranges) within the state and has experimented with new fruit production.

But for Tripura, it’s an awful point to maintain the quality of orange with changing climatic affects on nature of the state.
