Agartala, Sep 22 (TIWN) : Tension erupted in the Law and Order situation in poll-bound Northeast state Tripura ahead of by-election followed by agitations of the oppositions and 3 sets of FIRs by BJP, Congress and CPI(M) against each-others.

When BJP has accused the Congress and CPI(M) for intriguing against BJP, both the opposition Congress and CPI(M) have gone in a joint protest on Sunday by blocking Badharghat constituency’s highway voicing against BJP’s alleged attack on opposition voters. The protest was held led by opposition candidates Bulti Biswas (CPI-M), Ratan Das (Congress).

The incident occurred after opposition members were posting banners in a shop, 200 metres far from the booths and the ruling BJP allegedly attempted to stop them. The BJP also attempted to burn the shop where the banners were being pasted and then attacked the family of the local shop-keeper, alleged both CPI-M and Congress.

Congress, CPI-M’s further alleged that their polling agents have been threatened by BJP asking  not to come in the booths on tomorrow, alleged the oppositions.

Demanding immediate arrest of the BJP activists, CPI-M, Congress blocked road in the poll bound constituency. Local police officers rushed to the spot but the anger of the CPI-M supporters went high and raised slogan “Tripura Police , Hay Hay…..”.

The angry opposition parties members said, this time if BJP attacks them, they will also attack back but anyhow they will cast votes tomorrow. Police official Subrata Chakraborty assured that law and order will be blanketed with heavy security.

After hours of blockade, on police’s request the agitation was withdrawn but CPI-M and Congress lodged FIRs against BJP activists and also a complaint was lodged against BJP MLA Ram Prasad Pal for allegedly sponsoring the violence. Opposition parties demanded arrests of the BJP activists. CPI-M has submitted written complaint to the Chief Electoral Officer Sriram Taranikanti, alleged 5 persons of CPI-M were injured.

On the other side, BJP calling an urgent press conference accused CPI-M and Congress for violating model-code-of-conduct and demanded immediate arrests of the Opposition candidates and the agitators for blocking roads amid Section 144 imposed by DM.

Addressing media, BJP MLA Sushanta Chwodhury said, “CPI-M and Congress both are doing conspiracy against BJP and today’s road blockade was a part of their intrigue to create a panic and frighten the voters. Amid model code of conduct how the opposition could make that gathering ? We want arrest of all CPI-M and Congress members attended the road-blockade”.

Tripura by election to be held tomorrow and vote casting to be started from 7 am. State Election Commission has urged all voters must to come in the booths and cast their valuable votes.

Along with Tripura, by-polls will be held for the Hamirpur seat in Uttar Pradesh, Dantewada in Chhattisgarh and Pala in Kerala on September 23 (tomorrow)
