AGARTALA, Sep 22 (TIWN): Congress, CPI-M have staged massive agitation in Tripura’s poll bound Badharghat constituency on Sunday demanding a peaceful election, followed by events of rigging, violence alleged by these two opposition parties against BJP. State Election Commission, Police just on yesterday assured people that no law and order disturbance will be complained in this election, requesting voters to cast votes fearlessly but as soon as the election hour is zooming, violence tendency is again increased. Main allegation has been brought against BJP MLA Ram Prasad Pal against whom there was recently an arrest warrant, later clarified by Law Minister Ratanlal Nath who said, the arrest warrant was by mistake, but against Ram Prasad Pal there are uncountable complaints and video evidence displays the muscle power attitude of the MLA.
Badharghat by election candidate Mimi Majumder was seen accompanied by MLA Ram Prasad Pal which has increased worries of the oppositions.
Law and order of Badharghat constituency is now under Election Commission as not even 24 hours left for much awaited by-election in the constituency but tension and panic triggered in Badharghat constituency. Although State Election Commission called all voters to fearlessly cast their votes, but in the morning a family belong to CPI-M was threatened by BJP hooligans led by 1) Prasenjit Roy, 2) Santu Debnath.
A huge number of CPI-M, Congress activists, leaders sat in road blockade Siddhi Aram. The BJP reportedly has planned to attack the opposition followed by BJP woman leader’s yesterday’s threat to opposition for “Zamanat Zabd”.
The incident occurred after opposition members were posting banners in a shop. The hooligans also attempted to burn the shop and then attacked the family of the local shop-keeper.
The family not only attacked by the hooligans but a child in the house was attempted to be beaten.
Demanding immediate arrest of the culprits, CPI-M, Congress blocked road. Local police officers rushed to the spot but the anger of the CPI-M supporters went high. They said, this time if BJP attacks them, they will also attack back but anyhow they will cast votes. Police official Subrata Chakraborty assured that law and order will be blanketed with heavy security.
The party candidates Bulti Biswas (CPI-M), Ratan Das (Congress) were also present in the road blockade. FIR has been lodged against multiple BJP activists, so far no arrests.
After police assured action against hooligans, then the blockade was withdrawn. Tripura by election to be started tomorrow morning at 7 am, but oppositions are afraid of night attacks by BJP as in last 18 months in each election night attacks house to house happened.
Congress, CPI-M’s polling agents have been threatened not to come in the booths, alleged the oppositions.
