AGARTALA, Sep 17 (TIWN): As per BJP Govt’s latest plan about Tripura Sundari temple, the temple premise likely to get a lotus shape which was displayed in the Secretariat in the presence of CM Biplab Deb. However, it may take a sensitive term as this temple belong to Tripura culture built by Tripura King Dhanya Manikya in 1501 under Ek-Ratna stature.

The structure of the temple was known as “Ek Ratna” structure, where the temple looks like a simple cottage.

It was built before over 518 years by King Dhanya Manikya in 1501 AD after the Goddess came in his dream and told him about the existence of the Goddess under ground at Chittagong.

There are two similar but different sized black stone idols of the Goddess in the sanctum sanctorum of the temple. The larger and more prominent idol of 5 feet height is of Goddess Tripura Sundari and the smaller one, adorably called Chhoto-Ma (literally, Little Mother), is 2 feet tall and is an idol of Goddess Chandi Folklore says that the smaller idol was carried by the kings of Tripura to the battlefield.

Every year on the occasion of Diwali, a famous Mela takes place near the temple which is visited by more than 0.2 million pilgrims.

Indeed there is nothing to add in the Matabari's promotion, which has its own popularity and name across the world. The previous Govts never attempted to change the structure but maintained it time to time.

The move of BJP Govt with Political Hijacking of Tripura’s religious places under BJP which is now eyeing at the 5 century's old ancient Tripura Sundari Temple has already triggered resentments. The Ek-Ranta shaping temple, which now has a design since 518 years now to get a Lotus shape. It was not even disucussed with Tripura's various communities heads. Moreover.

According to the model displayed in the picture was not deep-red which has been the actual colour of Matabari. This issue likely to trigger massive controversy as Govt is directly interfering into temple issues without consulting with community or Royal family.

In case of Tripura, last year during Durga Puja festival, Agartala’s ancient Durga temple was coated by saffron coulour, which was restored after Royal family interfered. Tripura Sundari temple's various spots were also given saffron colour during Diwali celebrations.
Tripura Sundari temple is not only worshiped by Hindus but often Mogs (Buddhists) donate ducks there as it is written in Mog community's one of the religious books that the Goddess is also a part of their religions. Jamatia Hoda community also have their religious programmes every year here.
