1.86 hectare areas, belong to Indigenous people left without proper ownership for years : State Govt orders immediate patta-identification

AGARTALA, Aug 17 (TIWN): In a shocking revelation, 1.86 hectare areas have been identified by the BJP Govt which left useless to help the indigenous people as neither ownership is clear about those lands nor the indigenous people are able to know which “patta” actually belong to them.Slamming the previous Govt for unorganized works, Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Deb has ordered land identification of 1.86 hectare areas which belong to indigenous people as ‘patta’, as the indigenous people are unable to utilize the lands due to unknown ownership.Addressing at the Pragna Bhawan in a seminar named “Best utilization of RoFR Land by JICA”, CM said, “This seminar is targeted on to realise the best utilization of RoFR Land by JICA, Forest Departmen, specially how the indigenous people will be profited out of this. We wrote the central Govt about shifting cultivation with few proposals.

The answer hasn’t come yet and it has been found that in last 10 years we have worked with Rs. 133. Rs. 133 crore is not a small amount and works have been done under 1.86 hectare land, but my question is how many indigenous people know which is their land, which has been given as a “patta” by the Govt ?”

“Then it’s seen that wrong people are becoming owners. It proves that under the previous Govt nothing was organized. When we make our houses then  we focus on proper boundaries and other things but in this case it was not like that. Why our indigenous people do not know which land belongs them, who is the owner of a particular land ? Officials should look into the issue”, said Biplab Deb.

“Narendra Modi Govt is focused to develop Tripura and there is no lack of care, but the previous Govt didn’t take care of it. 1.86 lakhs lands’ identification is a tough work, but we have to do it now. Otherwise it’s state’s loss, it will cause deforestation”, said CM.

CM asked Forest Dept to identify the lands at the earliest.
