AMBASSA (Dhalai Dist, Tripura), August 13 (TIWN): In a warm and wide welcoming, Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Deb on Tuesday thanked all the NLFT ultras’ decision to return to the mainstream in their own homeland Tripura. The Chief Minister was addressing in surrendering programme at Chandrai Para HS School in Ambassa of Dhalai District, said, “On behalf of Modi Govt at Centre and Tripura Govt in state, I again and again congratulate all of you for your decision to return in the mainstream. I appeal all my brothers who are in the wrong paths yet please come back. Govt is committed to fulfill each and every promise done to you in the agreement whereas you also have to fulfill all the promises you have done to us in that paper”. This move of NLFT-SD (faction group of NLFT) to return in homeland leaving paths of violence is considered as a win of BJP Govt to curb insurgency problems. Govt has successfully done this within 16 months of its ruling in Tripura.

Also it is for the first time under Modi Govt, Central Home Ministry led by Amit Shah has taken special interest to end the insurgency problems in Tripura as under the previous Govt at centre most actions  were taken by the state govt but this time Central Home Ministry personally taken this issue very very crucially and also released it as a national issue and victory of Tripura Govt.

The introductory speech was given by DGP I/C Rajiv Singh and the next programme has been followed by speeches of Addl Chief Secretary Kumar Alok, Deputy CM Jishnu Dev Barman, MP Rebati Tripura, surrender of Sabir Debbarma, Kajal Debbarma and three others in front of Chief Minister of Tripura, surrender of 83 militants and at the end speech will be delivered by Chief Minister Biplab Deb.

Huge numbers of arms have been surrendered.

It was announced by Union Home Ministry on 11th August, “The National Liberation Front of Tripura led by Sabir Kumar Debbarma, NLFT-SD has agreed to abjure the path of violence and join the mainstream. An MoU was signed in this regard between, Centre, Tripura Government and NLFT-SD”.

Home Ministry said, the group has agreed to the surrender its 88 cadres with their weapons. The surrendered cadres will be given surrender benefits as per the Surrender-cum-Rehabilitation Scheme, 2018 of the Ministry.

The State Government of Tripura will help the surrendered cadres in housing, recruitment and education. The Ministry said, Centre will consider the proposals of Tripura Government regarding economic development of tribal areas of Tripura.

The NLFT has been banned under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act since 1997.
