AGARTALA, July 13 (TIWN): Modi Govt led demonetization rattled black money holders across India and in case of Tripura things are not different.

On 8 November 2016, the Government of India announced the demonetization of all ₹500 and ₹1,000 banknotes of the Mahatma Gandhi Series. It also announced the issuance of new ₹500 and ₹2,000 banknotes in exchange for the demonetized banknotes. As over 2 lakhs of cash submissions with old currencies were sought for clarification, many people holding illegal cashes chose to destroy those cashes instead of depositing in bank accounts.

In such an example, today Agartala Municipal employees while cleaning drains and water-body areas across Maharaj Ganj Bazar, also known as Gol Bazar, got 2 bundle of old currency.

It can be mentioned here that Chief Minister Biplab Deb recently said in a programme that PM Modi’s Swachh Bharat Abhiyan does not only mean to clean the environment but also to clean the system. Demonetization has also been claimed as one of such demands.

Back in 2016 in similar way demonetized notes were recovered from AMC drains.
