AGARTALA, Oct 22 (TIWN): Tripura Opposition Leader- Sudip Roy Barman Wednesday publicly flashed another report of public fund misappropriation in Social Welfare and Social Education Department in the implementation of Indira Gandhi National Old Age Pension (IGNOAP) scheme in Tripura. As a result, the state government is facing trouble in the so called ‘golden era’ of ruling front.According to the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) report, 21288 beneficiaries under the National Old age Pension Scheme with an annual pension liability of Rs 21.05 crore were found spent on dead, ineligible or noon-existent, said Sudip. Altogether, 62, 739 beneficiaries are there under IGNOAP scheme while physical verification was conducted for 46, 738 beneficiaries. After the completion of physical verification, CAG reported in total 1, 451 beneficiaries were found dead, 7, 707 persons were found ineligible and 9095 persons were not found physically present, added Sudip.

He further stated that on behalf of Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) we requested the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) to conduct an immediate discussion in the next PAC meeting scheduled to be held on October 27 on misappropriation of public funds in the fiscal 2011-12.

It was also mentioned in the CAG report that the control mechanism of National Old Age Pension was weak leading to payment of pension to non-existent pensioners. The performance audit covered the period from 2007 to 2012 with the objective of assessing the level of economy, efficiency and effectiveness of significant activities keeping in view its mandate.

Surprisingly, even after knowing everything the state government did not take any measure on misappropriation of public fund repeatedly, said Barman in a press conference at Congress Bhavan, here today. The state government has been depriving the actual beneficiaries from getting old -age Pension, he said. Even no action was taken by the concerned department after getting CAG report on September 2012, said Barman. There is no single corruption-free department is available in Tripura.

“We shall keep conducting our anti-scam struggle for the interest of state people. We would like to request to the state people to be with us in this journey for the betterment of the state and its people. We are going to knock the door of Tripura High Court very shortly on the fund embezzlement issues in the state”, said Sudip.

A section of ruling front leaders are allegedly misappropriating the public funds regularly under the shadow of Melarmath by depriving the poor people. Following the multi-crore scam in Bishalghar RD block, the state government formally suspended the scamster Bimal Chakraborty. But the suspension period will be started from the date of receiving the order by the concern person. But failing to trace the scamster, so called police department has marked Bimal as absconding, said Sudip Though the SDPO Bishalghar yesterday assured to arrest Bimal within 24 hours, but he is still at large.
