Belonia, Oct 22 (TIWN): Global Handwash Day celebrated under National Sanitation Campaign (Swachh Bharat Mission) program observed today at 2 PM in the conference Hall, Belonia by DM & officials of South Tripura.
The day was organised as part of the Swachh Bharat Mission by the District Water and Sanitation Committee South District and Social Educational Health and Cultural Development Organization South Tripura. Minister Ratan Bhowmik inaugurated the programme. It was attended by Sabhadhipati Dakhin Tripura Zilaparisad, Addl DM & Collector,Belonia Municipality Chairman, Executive Engineer, South, Member Secretary South, DWSC South,CDPO South Tripura, Inspector of School , CMO South , Assistant engineer.
Minister said that food items distributed during functions are given out by dirty hands which is not safe and becomes a factor of spreading communicable diseases such as water borne diseases.People need to be aware and reform this practice, he said. Belonia Municipality Chairman Dipankar Sen said that sanitary latrine is very necessary as open reservoir latrine used till a few years back can cause diseases, especially during the rainy season when the impurities from the latrine such as waste products or germs come in contact with water which will become contaminated. Demonstration of complete hand wash was also shown a part of the programme.
Speaking at the occasion, Dakhin Tripura Zila Sabhadhipati called upon the participants especially students to take advantage of the day`™s observance and reorient themselves to healthier lifestyle by making regular hand washing a habit.
Speaking on the sideline of the observation, Addl District Magistrate & Colector said that the government of India took up the National Sanitation Campaign under Swachh Bharat Mission in accordance with the vision of Mahatma Gandhiji`™s `Developed, Neat and a Clean Country`Â and the World Hand Wash Day was observed as a part of the National Sanitation Campaign for proving mass awareness of cleanliness,
