AGARTALA, July 16 (TIWN): Govt of Tripura has started paddy procurement at MSP of Rs. 1750 from June 10 according to which a farmer can sell up to 2 quintal of food grain, but now Govt initiative is gripped by corrupt hands, involvement of Govt officials are highly suspected.

Farmers today blocked road at Kamalasagar after they waited whole day to see their products but no vehicle came on spot to carry their rice. For whole day the farmers were sitting with rice, generated mass resentments.

This caused massive traffic jam on the national highway.

Govt has targeted 10,000 matric ton food grains’ buying which likely to cost 2 crores 25 thousand.

Govt started this practice since 2018 aimed to stable the farmers’ economic condition. Report says that food grains’ quality in ration shops has developed.

Chief Minister Biplab Deb also said that his Food Dept Director Debasish Basu has suggested Rs. 170 crores of budget sanctioning which can assure the farmers that Tripura Govt will buy 1 lakh matric ton of paddies at minimum support price.
