AGARTALA / PANISAGAR, June 25 (TIWN): In spite of some Police Officials sincere efforts, massive Narcotics smuggling continue across Tripura as almost all criminals, smugglers joined BJP after 2018's Assembly Election win. In a major development, one drug smuggler Abdul Basar (39), S/O Lt Moin Uddin of Bil, resident of Panisagar was arrested today morning 7am in a anti-narcotics operation by North Tripura Police. North SP Bhanupada Chakraborty led Police team seized above 1.5 crores yaba tablets and crores of contrabands has also taken a lead role in today’s raid. Along with Abdul Basar, police seized 5000 tablets and cash Rs 4,50,000 and also an ALTO car. Being asked by police on camera, Basar directly said that he is connected to drug smuggling with Sonamura, even though denied to utter the masterminds’ names.

He said, the exchange of drugs and cash held mostly via trains. Border Security Forces in Tripura also continuously seizing contrabands including ganja mostly from Sonamura, Boxonagar areas under Sepahijala District. In a note of concern, BSF in Tripura said that now a days drug-smugglers are appointing ladies for narcotic business.Even though Chief Minister Biplab Deb is designing “Drug Free Tripura” and police are working on that direction but the drug-mafias are increasing in numbers.

The problem occurred as all the drug mafias which was earlier under CPI-M shelter now have taken BJP’s shelter by joining the party aimed to continue their drug empire. Indeed, drug-consuming rate has increased in Tripura in past one year.

Moreover, Tripura now turned as the international smuggling corridor after BJP Govt occupied power in March, 2018. Also State Govt has stopped random vehicle checking in the border which is increasing threats of such drug smuggling.

The smuggling network, which runs its production hub in the Wa State of Myanmar, has established a strong base in Sepahijala district of Tripura through Bangladesh.  BJP’s various top leaders’ from MLA Ram Prasad Pal, MLA Krishnadhan Das to MP Pratima Bhowmik's involvement in this mafia empire continuing to paralyze state’s law and order.    BJP MP Pratima Bhowmik who was caught in video threatening to murder an IPS Officer Kiran Kumar in midnight  on 12th April at Agartala, Pratima  herself came in media limelight for being involved in various illegal activities.

Also in the 2018 Assembly election has used crores of her drug-income funds, informed various sources. She crossed more Rs 9 lakhs rupees than EC guideline of Rs 7- lakhs and was served with notices.  Pratima Bhowmik's viral video of threatening a IPS Police officer to kill on spot saying, “Hum Abhi Tereko Maar Dalega” is yet from hands in hands of smart phone users.

Recently in an official statement, it came out that the number of Injecting Drug Users (IDU) is on the rise in Tripura in spite of efforts by the state AIDS control society to control the menace, officials said.

The Injecting Drug Users are mostly concentrated in Kanchanpur and Damchera in North Tripura District and Dhalai district, the officials said.  Mafias have changed political colours after election for drug-smuggling in same way other illegal works as Fuel-Theft have also been continuing in North Tripura with colour changing politics.

Chief Minister Biplab Deb's soft stand towards Pratima Bhowmik, Ram Prasad Pal, Krishnadhan Das led mafia coterie is being seen as weakness to curb Narcotics smuggling.
