AGARTALA / NEW DELHI, June 16 (TIWN): In another major developmental initiative for the state, Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Deb met Union Railways and Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal regarding the proposed Special Economic Zone (SEZ) in Samboom. SEZ stands for Special Economic Zone. It is commonly used as a generic name to refer to modern economic zones. Almost every country has such zones.The main speciality in these area is that ,the rules and regulations given by the Government to the companies working here, totally differ from those outside. Deb also has been assured by the Minister regarding removal of trade-barriers to speed up the economy in border zones. Piyush Ved Prakash Goyal is an Indian politician and the current minister of Railways and Commerce in the Government of India. He was elevated to Cabinet Minister position on 3 September 2017. Biplab Deb also met Union Textile Minister Smriti Irani and said she will be visiting Tripura soon, said Tripura Chief Minister. Irani is the Textile Minister of the Central BJP Govt. CM said, the Minister is enthusiastic over developing textile industry in Tripura.

Tripura is known for handloom industry, but the handloom industry had fallen in last few decades due to cost and lack of marketing. In 2018 while addressing at Pragna Bhawan, the Chief Minister suggested to add more designs in handloom products which may boost the marketing and “quality” of Tripura handloom is unquestionable.

CM is visiting Delhi as he attended the NITI Aayog meeting on yesterday along with other CMs of 27 states.

Deb on yesterday was also succeeded in getting major loan from ADB for seven district headquarters infrastructure developments. Asian Development Bank(ADB) has  approved the project submitted by Urban Development Department amounting Rs. 1650 Cr  ($235 million) for infrastructure development such as piped water supply, underground drainage, underground sewage or scientific septage management, roads with pavement etc in seven district Headquarter towns other than Agartala i.e. Khowai, Ambassa, Dharmnagar, Kailashahar, Udaipur, Bishramganj, Belonia. Asian Development Bank will provide Rs. 1650 Cr( $235 million) out of which 80% is grant in aid and the State will have to repay back only 20% loan in due course of time. 

Biplab Deb was keen to address the NITI Aayog committee and also in a meeting with the Prime Minister Narendra Modi about the flood dangers and losses of the public and the government, demanding a permanent solution to it.
