Police brutality is everywhere in Tripura now. I am very much with my Tiprasa friends who were recently targeted by police with brutal firing at Jirania. Police has been used by the BJP Govt as mafia. BJP is very much indulged in war against the people who are not in BJP, those media which are criticizing the Govt. Our Agartala office is closed since few months due to police threat and harassment. It became highly risky for staffs to work from the office. BJP being ruled by Biplab Deb and Pratima Bhowmik against whom one BJP MLA Surajit Datta has brought smuggling allegations, the state is undergoing a total anarchy. Under them the voice of democracy is already killed”.

“Basically BJP is using its mafia and on the other side, opposition party leaders are attacked, family members, women are attacked. Today dreams of unemployed youths are ended, contractual employees are terminated”, he said.

“At the same time, massive violence has been launched in Jirania. I have come across all the videos related to Jirania violence on January 8. I saw that along with police many saffron flag carrying people were disrupting the peace, shops were bunt, firing injured youths. As Ajit Pratap Singh is the head of West District, without his permission firing was not possible. Police instead of firing on air or using other basic techniques just shot the agitators and after firing Ajit Pratap Singh shamelessly claimed that the firing was done on the air and nobody was injured. Police have targeted the agitators from behind shows police were running after the innocent agitators. Then when injured people were being taken to hospital, police attacked in the ambulance and the video has proven it”, said Saumen Sarkar.

“Right now the pressure on media and attack ongoing are beyond tolerance. Even the BJP supporting news media if do slight criticism of the Govt, Biplab Deb and his OSD directly give them threat”, Saumen Sarkar said.

It was Chief Minister Biplab Deb under whose instruction SP West harassed my parents. As I don’t stay here, so police targeted my old parents by entering my home in night and questioning them. My mother filed a case against this illegal activity of police. High Court took the issue very seriously and the Justice summoned Ajit Pratap Singh in the court within 24 hours and asked how can he harass someone’s parents just because case are filed against the person. Unexpectedly, SP West Ajit Pratap Singh accepted the guilt saying he did all these. High Court has ordered police protection to my parents also warned not to violate human rights anymore”, Saumen Sarkar said.
