AGARTALA, Dec 27 (TIWN): MP Jitendra Chaudhury on the day of Jana-Shhikasha-Diwas, observed at Town Hall talked on the historical significance of Ganamukti Parishad led movement in Tripura, which uplifted people here with Education. Addressing on the occasion of Jana-Shiksha-Diwas, MP Jitendra Chaudhury talked about the historical significance of remembering revolutionary leaders of Tripura who enlighten the whole community with mass education. Jitendra Choudhury mentioned, the revolution which started at 1945 (1355 in Tripura year) was the era of revolution ahead of India’s independence from British rule and also World War.Mentioning revolutionary leaders of Ganamukti Parishad as Dasharath Deb, Hemanta Debbarma, Chaudhury said, Tripura’s mass awareness history can not be scripted without their dedication. These leader were not powerful as tax collecting Zamindars or Kings but what Tripura is today and its indigenous people are, a major contribution of those leader should be remembered.“Massive revolution came in social, cultural and other sectors under the Communist leadership. The Kings created buildings like Ujjayanta Palace, Neermahal and many more palaces, but the mass revolution and modernization and development came not by them", he said.

Chaudhury also criticized Khajna (taxation) led Kingdom who used live luxuriously but common men had nothing except poverty and suffering. Nothing was developed here and massive poverty continued to grip the state.

He also raised question, why history doesn’t talk about Kings relation with its own people from Dharmanagar, Jampui to Amarpur ? History can’t site any such mass communication or heart relation of Kings with its people.

“They had power and there was no voice of revolution, but Himanta Debbarma, Dasharath Debbarma, Sudhindra Debbarma were closed to people. Kings like Bir Birkam Manikya was powerful, but people walked with our leaders. It created impact across Northeast”, he said.

Chaudhury further said, there are various dividing politics in each Northeast state, which has continued the clash between indigenous people themselves.

He further took a dig at the BJP Govt for creating a tension, indulging in communal politics thoughout the country in the name of cast and religion.

Jitendra Chaudhury also criticized Modi Govt for slashing funds for tribal welfare dept and its attempt of occupying tribal people’s lands.

History’s slice on Jana-Siksha-Movement : On 27th December, 1945, a group of 11 educated tribal youths formed the historic Janashiksha Samity with Dasaratha Debbarma as its vice-president. Within a few months of its inception, it established no less than 400 schools in tribal-dominated hills and villages. The educated and moderately educated tribal youths were appointed as teachers. The villagers constructed school buildings, provided accommodation and food, and paid minimal allowance to the teachers. Subsequently, the tribal people in their large numbers came out in support of Janashiksha Samity. Alongside establishment of news schools, the leaders of Janashiksha Samity raised demand for recognition of these schools by the royal administration. They submitted a deputation to Mr Brown, a retired British Army Officer who was the then education minister of the king’s administration. After visiting many schools founded by the Samity, Mr Brown accorded recognition to 300 of these schools. Naturally, Maharaja Bir Bikram Kishore Debbarman got very much annoyed with his education minister for according recognition to these schools and Mr Brown had to resign and leave the state.
