AGARTALA, October 1 (TIWN): Minister of Rural Development (RD) Naresh Jamatia is likely to meet union RD minister Nitin Gadkari in the end of October this year. He is reported to draw the attention of the central RD ministry on the issue of fund disbursements under Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA), to the state Tripura. But, a relevant question here is that – Is the authority making an optimum utilization of the existing resources? Well, at least the contribution made by the suspended BDO Bimal Chakraborty’s glorified (!) deeds denote that state is not suffering from dearth of funds but facing fund surplus as the surplus is being utilised to glorify the obedience of Bimal to the red brigade.
In the current Financial Year (FY), Tripura has been given Rs. 652 crore where to provide the job card holders with 100 day of works an amount of Rs.1407 crore is needed, informed RD minister Naresh Jamatia. “I have a written to the union RD minister Nitin Gadkari so to look into the matter and take necessary steps so that Tripura does not get deprived”, he said, in a meeting, yesterday, at State Secretariat.
Nearly six lakh fifty thousand job card holders are there in Tripura. And as per the labour budget the financial requirement is Rs.1407 crore to support 5,14,000,00 man days. Earlier too the state had written number of letters to the concerned ministry for the same. But Government of India did not respond to any of the letters of the Tripura. To add to insult to the injuries, the central has reduced the fund disbursement by 69%.In this regard the answer of the question, why Tripura was made shrt of adequate money inspite of achieving the top slot in implementing MGNREGA project, is hard to find. Probably, Bimal Chakraborty and his associates can answer well. Within the limited money, 46 man days will be generated, say the calculations.
Meanwhile, Rajasthan, West Bengal and Kerala have received a hike of more than 100 percent in MGNREGA grant in the current FY.
