AGARTALA, Dec 10 (TIWN): Congress in Tripura has burnt Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s effigy in the capital city Agartala, condemning JUMLA Modi’s shocking remark against Congress ex-President Sonia Gandhi by calling her “widow” and attacking her indirectly for looting Govt fund under widow-attire. Youth Congress, NSUI also joined the protest before the Congress Bhawan at Post Office Chowmuhani, burnt Modi’s effigy, slamming his remark against the woman opposition leader of the country. Being asked by media about the reason behind the agitation, Tripura Congress President Birjit Sinha said, “Modi remarked that Congress takes money under widow scheme. This statement was made against Sonia Gandhi. His comment is highly objectional, condemnable. People of India will not stand with Modi for his stand. We want he (Modi) must apologize for his remark immediately”. Being asked by media, what will Congress do if Modi doesn’t apologize, Sinha said, “Then people of India will judge it. We can’t hang him for the comment, rest public will judge".

"We don’t expect a Prime Minister of this country will talk against a woman like this. It’s against Indian ethics and culture”, said Birjit Sinha.

“Respecting women is India’s tradition. PM Modi has crossed the limits of his talks by insulting a woman. Modi never respects woman. He himself doesn’t respect own wife, how he would pay respect to others’ wives. He never accepted his own wife but in the last election, in affidavit even though he accepted her as his wife, but he doesn’t honour her as his wife practically. It shows what’s his mentality for women. We condemn it”, Birjit Sinha added.

The controversy erupted after Modi while addressing a rally in Rajasthan on 4 December, launched an indirect attack against UPA chairperson and former Congress President Sonia Gandhi referring to her as a “widow”.

“You can imagine, the kind of government the Congress ran. Widow pension was started for a girl child who was not even born. But, who was the Congress widow who used to take away this money? Who was that Congress’s widow in whose account this money went to,” the Prime Minister said.
Modi’s video is now viral across social media. Condemning the remark of PM Modi and asking Modi to apologize for it, Congress has staged the protest in Agartala, along with a nationwide agitation.
