AGARTALA / NEW DELHI, July 20 (TIWN): “Bizarre! For the first time in the history of no-confidence motions has the PM’s reply been so disconnected with reality. What he is saying has nothing to do with issues raised by the Opposition and his own allies”, said CPI-M National General Secretary after PM Modi replies to the queries of the opposition.

CPI-M will also stage a protest in front of the Parliament on July 24.

The Narendra Modi government on Friday passed the no-confidenc emotion moved by the oppostion with an overwhelming majority with the government getting 325 out of a total 451 votes. Only 126 MPs voted in favour of the motion.

The no-confidence motion was put to vote after a 12-hour heated debate which saw the government and opposition trade charges and a moment of drama when Congress chief Rahul Gandhi, after a blistering speech, walked over to hug the Prime Minister.

The result indicated that parties not formally part of the BJP-led ruling coalition, the NDA, voted in the government's favour.

Noteworthy, a surprise hug from Rahul Gandhi in parliament today did nothing to soften Prime Minister Narendra Modi's return fire hours later during a debate on the opposition-backed no-confidence motion against his government.

PM Modi's stinging point-by-point rebuttal did not spare either Congress president Rahul Gandhi or his mother Sonia Gandhi.

"In the morning, the voting was not over, the debate was also not over, one member comes running to me saying - Utho Utho Utho (up, up, up). What is his hurry to come to power? Let me tell this member it is the people who elected us. That is how we have come here," PM Modi said in what was seen as his barb at Rahul Gandhi.
